Addictions Counselor - Life Coach - Intake Coordinator

I studied Medicine and Psychiatry at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Dean of America, in Lima-Peru. I did my Medical Internship and Psychiatry Residency at the Edgardo Rebagliatti Martins National Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Peru. This experience allowed me to learn the art of medicine, next to the most renowned specialists in the areas of Internal Medicine, Clinical Psychiatry, Liaison Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Drug Dependency. At that time I also worked as a physician at the National Center of Information of Medicines and Toxic Substances (CENAMYT-PERU) and then as a supervising physician of the Alo IPSS Program – Peruvian Institute of Social Security – the first national telephone center in Peru – which had the function of providing information and medical education to the insured and uninsured population. Immediately after finishing my medical residency, I joined the Department of Psychiatry of the Naval Hospital of Peru, where I worked for a long time with naval and civilian personnel, specializing in the area of War Psychiatry with veterans of the internal war suffered by Peru in the nineties. I graduated in Health Services Management at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Then I spent several years of my life working as Sectorial Director of the Health Promotion and Healthy Life Department at the central headquarters of the Peruvian Ministry of Health and then as Executive Director of the Mental Health Department of the Ministry of Health at the same central headquarters. In these jobs I focused on various aspects of public health and the development of mental health policies at the national level. In my position I had the opportunity to work with the populations affected by the internal war in my country, victims and internally displaced persons working jointly with the Truth and National Reconciliation Commission and the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations implementing the proposals that this commission had made. I also had the opportunity to work with international organizations such as the European Economic Commission, JICA-Japan International Cooperation Agency, the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, the International Commission on Human Rights, among others, in the implementation of these public policies. At this time I participated in the International Course for Peruvian doctors directed by Harvard University, HPRT -Harvard Program Refugee Trauma- to train us in the care of populations affected by the internal war.

After finishing my job at the Ministry of Health in 2006, I came to the United States and worked for three years at The Road to Recovery as an addiction and domestic violence counselor. I returned to Peru around 2010 and worked as a Specialist in DEVIDA-National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs, in charge of designing, conducting and implementing public policies related to the fight against drugs. We worked in close coordination with the Ministry of the Presidency, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations and various international organizations. After that I worked as an Assistant Psychiatrist at the Mental Health Department of the Edgardo Rebagliatti National Hospital, in the Geriatric Psychiatry, Drug Dependency and Psychosis Unit. At this time I was a professor at Cayetano Heredia University and San Martin de Porres University, in Lima-Peru.

Back in the United States in 2017 I obtained my certification as an Addictions Counselor Level II, NCAC II and Life Coach. For the past two years I have been working for the Atlanta Counseling Institute.
